We understand that many young people hope to return home. At Muddy Steps, we take time to talk with you about your life so far, including your experiences and feelings. Together, we explore what’s safe, what’s possible, and what steps might come next. Our aim is to help you understand your journey and support you as you move forward — whatever that might look like for you.

Muddy Steps offers a short-term, 4-week programme designed to help you reconnect with yourself and feel more confident about your future. What happens after that depends on your care plan and the decisions made by your local authority. If we’re given the right information by your social worker early on, we’ll do everything we can to help you understand what’s happening and support you throughout the process.

Yes — your voice matters. We believe every young person has the right to be heard and to understand what’s going on in their life. We’ll help you understand your rights, and also talk through the difference between what you might want and what’s in your best interest. This can help build trust and give you more confidence in the decisions being made about your future.

It’s important to us that you feel safe expressing how you feel. If something’s bothering you, or if you want to make a complaint or just talk, we’ll make sure you have ways to do that privately and respectfully. When you share something with us, we’ll listen carefully and respond fairly — making sure you understand what’s being done about your concern and why.

Turning 18 is a big step, and we know it can feel uncertain. While you’re with us, we’ll do our best to prepare and support you for whatever comes next — whether that’s further care, independent living, or something else. Our goal is to help you feel more ready and more stable before your time with us ends.
