Supporting Health And Wellbeing Through Trust, Safety And Skills
CARE THAT CONNECTS
Our holistic approach offers young people consistent, compassionate support that recognises the impact of early experiences, trauma, and disrupted attachments.
Through our Health and Wellbeing team, young people receive joined-up, trauma-responsive care that’s rooted in a deep understanding of young people development, emotional regulation, and attachment needs.
We use practical tools, such as the Decider Skills, to help young people recognise and manage their emotions, build safe relationships, and develop a growing sense of trust, safety, and self-confidence.

OUR AIMS
We aim to support young people—especially those who have experienced abuse, neglect, or exploitation—to live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives. We understand how early trauma can affect the way young people feel, think, and behave, often leading to protective patterns that helped them survive but now get in the way of connection and growth. We work to progressively support young people in moving away from those survival-based responses by creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where they can begin to feel secure, valued, and understood. With the right therapeutic support, and through practical, young people-friendly tools like the Decider Skills, we help young people learn how to recognise their emotions, understand their behaviours, and find healthier ways to cope and communicate.

OUR MODELS
Our THRIVE model provides a personalised, strengths-based framework for supporting each young person's unique journey. Informed by neuroscience and current research on developmental trauma and attachment, this young person-centred approach allows us to respond to children with curiosity, compassion, and care.
Central to our practice is the use of a PACEful approach—Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy—which helps young people feel safe, emotionally held, and understood. This relational approach builds trust and allows young people to feel secure, even in times of challenge.
We also integrate Decider Skills, providing young people with practical tools to recognise and manage their emotions, make safe choices, and build emotional awareness.
By using the THRIVE model, we ensure that every aspect of a young person—emotional, behavioural, educational, and physical—is delivered with therapeutic precision, helping them heal, develop resilience, and move forward with confidence.
THE MUDDY STEPS TEAM

Our Health and Wellbeing Team is a fully connected part of the care we provide. They work closely alongside carers, educators, and other professionals to ensure each young person receives consistent, joined-up support that meets their individual needs.
The team includes a range of experienced professionals—clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, art and integrative therapists, and young person wellbeing practitioners—all of whom specialise in trauma-responsive care. Together, they bring a wide range of knowledge and therapeutic approaches, tailored to each young person's journey.
By supporting both emotional and physical health, we help young people feel safe, seen, and supported. Using practical tools like the Decider Skills, we give young people the strategies to understand and manage their feelings, build self-awareness, and develop the confidence to grow, heal, and thrive in a nurturing environment.
