NATURE NURTURES GROWTH
This serene setting provides a peaceful, stable environment that promotes emotional healing, encourages personal growth, and fosters a sense of security—critical for young people in care.
Surrounded by nature, young people can benefit from reduced stress and anxiety, which can be especially helpful for those who have experienced trauma.
The calm atmosphere and outdoor activities also support physical well-being, and the connection to nature can foster resilience, creativity, and self-confidence, providing a nurturing space for young people to thrive and build positive relationships.

OUR CALM, SAFE AND NATURING SPACES
We are proud to offer homes that provide both comfort and emotional security for the young person in our care. Each home is considerately located in peaceful, rural surroundings and designed to offer a warm atmosphere that provides access to open gardens, farmland, woodlands, and local wildlife. Our settings provide a natural space where young people can begin to feel calm, safe, and grounded. This environment allows young people to step away from previous distractions and the risks often found in urban areas, giving them room to relax, regulate, and connect with nature. Inside, each young person has a cosy bedroom—a personal space that helps them feel settled and secure.

Shared living spaces and dedicated areas for learning and reflection create opportunities for building relationships, developing routines, and feeling part of a caring home. Our team of carers, therapists, clinicians, and tutors work closely together to support each young person’s wellbeing. Through person-centred care and practical tools such as Decider Skills, we help young people manage emotions, make positive choices, and begin to rebuild trust and confidence in a safe and supportive environment.
THE POWER OF NATURE IN RURAL WALES
At Muddy Steps we believe in the deep, restorative power of nature to support young people's physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Living in the heart of rural Wales, surrounded by hills, rivers, and open skies, our homes offer young people the chance to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the natural world around them.
We make the most of our peaceful, natural surroundings—gardens, woodlands, and the rural Welsh countryside—to help young people explore, play, and connect with nature in ways that support their emotional wellbeing. These calming outdoor spaces provide young people with opportunities to regulate, reflect, and feel grounded.

For some, this might mean planting seeds, collecting eggs, preparing food outdoors, or enjoying a relaxed football game in the garden—building routines, confidence, and a sense of belonging. For others, it could involve walking woodland trails, paddling in a stream, foraging for wild foods, or challenging themselves with adventurous activities like rock climbing or kayaking on the local lakes. Each experience becomes a chance to practice emotional regulation, build resilience, and develop self-belief. With encouragement from trusted adults and the use of simple, practical tools like the Decider Skills, young people learn how to recognise their feelings, make safe choices, and experience the outdoors as a space for healing, learning, and fun.
